The issue is never the issue. The issue always The Revolution. Reds and Greens are a match made in hades who'll turn on each other after the rest of the world has been torched beyond recognition.
I must take strong issue with the phrase in the opening paragraph: “admittedly noble ideals”.
Leftism will never deserve such flattery.
When the Left isn’t lying about its objectives, it’s claiming a monopoly on goodness itself. Such claims are only backhanded insults against the Left’s critics, and to parrot these claims is to participate in the insult.
For example, Leftists will claim that being left-wing means “caring about poor people”. Not only are Leftists typically more interested in their own Messiah complexes than in actual poor people (they’re too misanthropic to want to touch actual poor people), but they compare poorly with the efforts and results that the Right delivers to the poor. The Left wants you to think that the Right hates the poor; the reverse is more true.
This article is otherwise very good, but we need to stop reflexively complimenting the world’s worst people. They don’t deserve it, and audiences are worse off for the psychological conditioning.
People seem to be perplexed as to why socialists would support Islamic totalitarianism.
It's because socialists are totalitarians. They see Islamists succeeding in their totalitarianism, where socialists have failed, admire their success and seek to emulate it.
If socialists had a clue, they would know that they will be the first targets of the Islamists, once Islamists have control.
my favorite is the Chinese support, e.g., the Chinese Billionaire Singam. His dollars support this insanity in France. The islamists seem not smart enough to look at what would happen if China were hegemonic and felt themselves or the significant interests threatened.
They lost all my respect after Charlie Hebdo. I have much disdain for the intellectual sneering at religion which somehow almost never seems to include Islam but I could care less if it was a cartoon with Moses Mohammed and Jesus having an orgy- to equate what may or may not be deliberate condescending obnoxious impiety (versus political commentary) to equate either of these morally with butchering human beings is a herald for zero civilization and speech and thought control. Every major newspaper should’ve ran that cartoon. That’s how you are Charlie.
It’s not just this. Navalny walked into fire for Russians and who really cared. If the people think they can sit on the sidelines forever if that’s what freedom and individual rights means to them they’ll be watching Paris burn a long time
And btw really the sole maya Angelou quote I can stomach. Bc so true.
An excellent article and similar to my position on these events. I believe this only the beginning. IN the UK, we have already seen how collaboration with Islamists and Greens can turn the tables quickly. We must not succumb to this slide into dysfunction and radicalism.

Sure, but the goal of caring for the poor, or being anti-racist, are good aims, at least in the abstract, if not in actual leftist praxis.

Indeed! That's what happened in Iran
