The divided communities of Ulster had a mass immigration event throughout the 17th century and have been physically fighting over it as recently as 1999. That’s almost 400 years from the first settlement to the most recent fighting. It’s an awfully long time.
These are both Northern European Christian communities but their differences were enough to cause significant violence for many lifetimes.

So a failure of assimilation is not an “oops I need to fix that” kind of problem, it has the potential to be a “this land will now be contested for hundreds of years, sometimes violently” problem. These things tend to have a delayed consequence aspect and we see this in places like Sweden where 2nd and 3rd generation immigrants from non-European countries commit crimes at higher rates than the first generation immigrants. In other words this is whatever the opposite of assimilation is.
Islam has a long-standing model for winning such contests over hundreds of years.
Threaten (and periodically enact) extreme violence but offer peaceful servitude if you submit and don’t fight back.
In this sense, it is correct to call it a religion of peace. It is peace through submission to the will of Allah. Submission is the essence of the theology and it is antithetical to European enlightenment ideas like “liberté, égalité, fraternité” or its Anglo liberal versions.
There are two levels of submission, firstly temporal, then spiritual: level 1, initially pay the Jizya but remain free to practice your religions and customs. Level 2, join the Umma.
The Jizya does not exist in Europe today, but transfer payments from Europeans to Muslim newcomers will increasingly function as a de facto Jizya and calls for this in the form of productivity-destroying transfer payments will grow along with the size of Muslim enclaves that are increasingly dominated by Islamists. In sufficient concentrations, moderate Muslims will submit (as they have always done) to the Islamists among them. The UAE has zero tolerance for Islamism which is why it has much less of problem with this than France, UK and Germany. In Europe, the Islamists are deeply entrenched and can increasingly wield Muslim communities as a weapon of political domination against their host states.
It is already happening and will continue to happen. In order to ensure it keeps happening, the Islamists will want to import more and more Muslims, faster and faster, into European lands.
This is extremely similar to what happened in Ulster. Most Catholics in Ulster have never been members of the IRA, but the IRA (and its various factions) have wielded extraordinary political power via (at most) a few thousand committed cadres.
The only solution is to root out Islamism from Muslim communities, but it is already too late to do this.
This is the very definition of a slow-moving train wreck.
10, 20 years from now people will ask “how could we not have seen this coming” and the truth will be that we could, but our leaders found it expedient to ignore it all and hope for the best.
