Thanks. Joined your substack. Quit Freddie deBoer as he is a Marxist antiSemitic tool. He is lost. I used to think he was brilliant.

I have been reconsidering Mr. deBoer because I have found he has three blind spots: Marxism/Communism, Israel, and Trans issues. He becomes near incoherent with them and will turn off comments at times.

I don’t know anything about his views on trans issues. On israel/Hamas he mixes arrogance with ignorance and a splash of anti Jewish hate. He’s unhinged. He can’t walk away from it. Is it his Marxism? Or does he just hate Jews?

I find him to be stuck in his Marxist narrative, which is strange because on other issues he can step outside of it. I've written to him before, trying to say nicely that when he talks about Judaism or Israel he comes off as sounding ignorant - he got very prickly. His understanding of Jewish history and thought is infantile. While all this is true, when he writes about things he knows about, he is interesting. When he just writes for the sake of writing, he can be brilliant.

I’m just gonna call him an antiSemite. Because his hatred is obvious. His ignorance is astounding. I quit his substack because of this. I found it unbearable. ‘Rabid Zionists invading substsck comments’ something like that. He spewed garbage anf couldn’t understand why he got pushback.

This seems to be the only subject I can bring myself to read about so I’m grateful you’re adding your voice and perspective. It’s a long time since I took NYT or WaPo as practically the word of God where news was concerned. Now I actively distrust them. Good to have other sources.

thanks for your thoughts... BTW Sari Nusseibah isn't from Gaza... and his voice is marginalized...

The PLO also persecuted peace workers in Nablus 20 years ago... peace was never their intent... just acquiring pieces of Israel till they could get it all...

What I said was, “I am sad when I think about the potential that Gaza has to do this [go through a cultural transformation to rid itself of rampant antisemitism], because it doesn't seem that there is much potential there. I am, for example, reminded of the Palestinian pacifist Sari Nuseibi…”

I can see how this sounds like I might be suggesting he was Gazan, so my apologies for the confusion. He was born in Damascus, Syria.

I agree peace was never the goal for those in charge. We can only hope one day people like Sari Nusseibeh become leaders, but like I said, I do not see that happening.
