I was recently listening to a reporter discuss being canceled and the typical trajectory that many journalists subsequently take from the left to right-wing media where they then proceed to complain about cancel culture.
The reporter said that for him this transition wasn’t about a shift in politics but about the fact that he had been treated disgracefully by his peers and then a community of fair-minded journalists reached out and new relationships naturally formed.
His was not a shift along the left-right political spectrum but along a temperamental spectrum of decency. I have had a similar experience.
I was therefore happy to speak to conservative political commentator Glenn Beck this week about my Seattle Times firing, Twitter mobs, Soviet history, Hitler, Lenin, Hannah Arendt,
and more.Beck made clear while he disagrees with some of my politics, what matters is where we overlap. Namely, our mutual concern for intolerance and the state of the media.
